doTERRA essential oils are unlike any other oil you have ever used and must be treated with the utmost respect.  They are a pure and potent plant medicine from Mother Earth.

Tip #1

Never put essential oils in your ear canal, nasal passage and/or your eyes. The membranes in these places are very thin and the oils are much too powerful to use on these areas.

You can put them around your ears, nose and eyes but just not in them!

Tip #2

Dilute the oils with a vegetable based carrier oil NOT water.  If you experience any skin discomfort from using the oils, apply a carrier oil over the area where the essential oil was placed (this will dilute it – using water will drive the oil into the skin and make it more irritated).

Suggested Carrier Oils

  • Fractionated Coconut Oil (FCO)
  • Olive oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Macadamia oil
  • Apricot kernel oil
  • Grapeseed oil

Tip #3

Some oils can be photosensitive and this is primarily the citrus oils.  This means when you apply one of these type of oils to your skin and then expose yourself to UV rays, the essential oils can react and may cause a burn or dark pigmentation.  Be mindful and if you know you are going out in the sun for the day use a different oil or apply citrus oils under your clothing.

Tip #4

Pharmaceutical drugs and oils.

If you are on any type medication please be sure to check with your doctor before using (and do your own research) an essential oil. A very helpful book and app by an essential oil expert called “Essential Oil Safety: A Guide for Health Care Professionals by Robert Tisserand & Rodney Young” (if you have any medication concerns you will find your answers in here).

Tip #5

Using less oil but more often is best
